The sun is shining through the trees and casting a shadow on the grass.

The property where the Red Coach Resort now resides was purchased in 1999 due to its century old hardwoods, rolling hills, and pristine spring fed creeks and ponds which help feed the 1/2 mile of riverfront defining the Northwest boundary of its 60 acres.  In the 19th century, this same riverbed served to supply Huntsville Alabama with gravel helping to establish its early development.  This riverbed can be easily explored when hiking along the 1.5 mile river walk loop trail now existing on the property by following the yellow blaze & red arrow trail markings found within its 20-acre natural reserve.  Arrowheads and many fossils have been discovered there as well as a diversity of wildlife including turkey, beaver, fox, coyote, blue heron, deer, and red-tailed hawk as well as a variety of fish.

Over the first 20 years of ownership, the property was explored by family and friends where camping, swimming, 4-wheeling, hunting, and fishing were enjoyed.  A true family sanctuary just outside the city, offering peace, fun, and a sense of belonging which together create great memories.  These intangibles are those which motivated owners Lee and Joy to create the Red Coach Resort, a refuge where one might regain that which is fleeting in the fast paced world around us, and enjoy it together with family and friends of their own.

The name Red Coach originates from a high end chain of restaurants envisioned by Howard Johnson in the 1950’s called the “Red Coach Grill”.  For those who may not know, Howard began making his fortune in his teenage years by selling popcorn in early 20th century movie theaters, and is why popcorn is now sold in every movie theater today.  This restaurant has a special childhood meaning to Lee, where Howard sent his Father (and the entire family) around the country to open these new restaurants.  The Red Coach Grill became a household name for Lee and his entire family, where now Red Coach Resort continues in that tradition, yet with the original term of the horse drawn “Coach” now referring to the modern RV motorhome of today.
